how do i cast the spell to open the doors using ruby in dark cloud?

in dark cloud i have got ruby the genie. and in some levels of the shipwreck she had to cast a spell on a crystal to open those big wooden doors. it says "R2 the change view -> X to cast a spell" but when i do it. it doesn't work. any one have any ideas on this??

Your ring has to be set to the attribute of the crystal. The crystals are different colors when you look at them, and you are supposed to match the color to an attribute on your weapon. For example, if the crystal looks pink, set your attribute to holy, then hit the crystal with your attack. The door should open up.
