There has been a lot of buzz around the concept of Reiki therapy in the recent past, as more and more people become aware of its potential benefits.  Reiki therapy itself is a traditional form of healing, with its roots in Japan but which has - in a span of less than 80 years of its existence - gained popularity in most of the world outside Japan where it has its roots. Now stress reduction is a major benefits when put into perspective, especially when it is said that more than three quarters of physical health ailments that people suffer from have their roots in unresolved psychological stress.

The detachment from the ups and downs of life that practitioners of Reiki stand to get forms a buffer against serious lifestyle illnesses like high blood pressure, strokes and heart problems, which have been noted to tend to affect people with the 'driven' personality, people who aim to make things happen, rather than just letting things happen and going with the flow.

After all, the stress-reduction mechanism for meditation involves the release of brain chemicals called endorphins, and these have been seen to be effective natural painkillers. And thanks to the stress reduction properties, Reiko therapy also offers a way for delaying and mitigating the effects of the ageing process, which too, are physical. And again thanks to the stress-reduction properties of Reiko therapy, it boosts the body's immunity (as raised stress levels have been known to wreck havoc to the body's immunity), while also aiding the person undertaking it to sleep better, and thereby offering protection from the whole range of problems rooted in inadequate sleep, including chronic fatigue and inexplicable headaches which perpetually haunt so many of us.
